Update June 1, 2003
I'm about 80% through the conversion and should have the new site
up and be ready to add your new suggestions sometime this week. For
those of you who contribute multi-event timelines, you'll be happy
to know that a new form will allow you to enter all of your events
at one time without having to submit each event separately.
May 17-18, 2003
26 new timelines, 10 explorations
Note: This will be the last update for approximately
two weeks. I am converting the site to a database driven site. This
will allow me to present many more features. However, it will require
that I cut and paste every timeline currently in the site to the new
database. It will be a lot of work but will be worth it.
I ask that you please hold your submissions until I post a notice
that I'm ready to receive new ones. If you do submit during
this time, I will post your submission as soon as I can, but if you
hold off, I will have a new submission form which will allow me to
immediately post your submissions, rather than wait until I have time
to do an update. Any current submission not entered during this update
will appear on the site when the database is rolled out. Thanks for
all of your input and your support. I hope to be accepting new timelines
and explorations in about two weeks.

Histalt
a. contr. "historical alternatives" b. contr. "historical
gestalt"
a way of thinking, a culture, a world(s)view, or broad framework within
which to view history as potentially malleable. The historical gestalt
of an alternate history is bigger than the details of a timeline resulting
from changing one event. Nations, culture, technology, and institutions
are all interconnected. You cannot change one thing ...

Change in Format of the Site
Beginning with this update, the format of the site is going to
change. Only the initial event of a timeline will appear on a date
page. Instead of choosing next event to follow a timeline to it's
completion, you will be able to click a link which says "view
entire timeline". This will take you to a single page which
will have the entire timeline laid out in chronological order. I
have found that as I add more and events to the site, it is getting
more and more difficult to follow a timeline. Some days such as
November 22 have so many events on them that it is extremely difficult
to find the correct timeline to follow.
The first timeline to be entered in the new method is timeline
571. It starts on June 13. The entire timeline
can be viewed by clicking "View Entire
Timeline" .
Over the next few months, I'll be converting all the previous entries
to this format. In the meantime, all new entries will be in the
new format.

March 27 - What's new? A new hard drive, new ram, new video
board, a new operating system, and an old computer that's running
like new. Thanks to Bernie Weinsaft and Rick Foltz for figuring
out that the repair shop I took my PC to gave me mismatched memory
that has caused me problems for several months. Now that I can update
again, I'll start tonight with a couple of quick items and then
post every night until I clear out my backlog of your suggestions.
Thanks for your patience while I've been out of commission!

didn't get lost) during the computer problems. If you submitted

New Footer
I've added a footer a the bottom of each date page explaining that
this is an alternate history site. I've received several emails form
people telling me I got the history wrong. At first I thought they
were just not clear on the concept of alternate history, but then
I thought maybe people are hitting a date page directly from a search
engine. I have now confirmed that this is what is happening. I hope
I haven't caused anyone to get an F on a history report.
