Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 4-21-1690 Event Description: This is a continuation of timeline 1843.
In spite of unrest in England, William lands in Ireland in an effort to capture/kill James II
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 5-11-1690 Event Description: British forces seized Port Royale and Arcadia from the French. Further south, Spain rumored to be supporting the Jacobite rebellion in the Carolinas.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 5-28-1690 Event Description: Jacobite forces defeat pro William forces outside Edinburgh while Williamite forces win a major victory near Kent.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 7-1-1690 Event Description: French defeat Augsburg forces at Fleures. In the Americas, Jacobite leader Jacob Leisler leads an expedition to Boston.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 7-8-1690 Event Description: Spanish forces having landed in Ireland join James II's army. James is said to have promised the Spanish valuable trade concessions and colonial limitations in the Americas as price of their assistance.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 7-11-1690 Event Description: William is defeated in Ireland by James II forces. The Battle of the Boyne as it is later called secures Ireland for the Jacobites/ William retreats to Bristol to regroup.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 7-27-1690 Event Description: Jacobite loyalists storm parliament killing 33 before they are themselves killed by the guards. The Parliament massacre enrages Williamites.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 8-4-1690 Event Description: A reconvened parliament passes the harshest laws yet against the Jacobites, outlawing Catholicism all together and demanding the "harshest penalties" for anyone who persists in rebellion against the crown. William having returned to London signs the document.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 8-31-1690 Event Description: Leisler's forces defeated by Williamite forces led by Phipps. Pennsylvania, New York, and Virginia sign a proclamation of loyalty to James II. While in the north Massachusetts Rhode Island and Connecticut sign affirmation of loyalty to William I. New Hampshire signs later that month
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 9-2-1690 Event Description: James II and his Jacobite army is defeated near Kingston. Jacobite forces siege York. Williamite forces defeated near Southampton. William reported to be "considering peaceful solutions" following his latest clash against Jacobites near Dover.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 10-7-1690 Event Description: The French campaign expands into Germany, the German League declares war and alliance with the League of Augsburg. Financially strapped, France calls for aid from Sweden. In response, the Swedish offer aid to League of Augsburg.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 3-3-1691 Event Description: James II captures York. Control of the city secures the north and frees up his march on London. Further south Jacobite forces continue to clash with Williamite forces.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 4-2-1691 Event Description: French and Spanish clash when France demands the Spain continue to observe its right of passage through the Spanish Netherlands. Outraged Charles withdraws support from the English/French declaring a "state of controlled hostility" between France and Spain. Charles refuses to join the League of Augsburg.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 6-1-1691 Event Description: William is defeated by James II outside London. Though James won the battle casualties were exceedingly high for the Jacobites. William flees to Dover. James II captures London
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 7-16-1691 Event Description: Jacobites take control of Charleston. Unrest continues through the rest of the Carolinas. Skirmishes continue in the Hudson valley between Jacobite and Williamite forces.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 7-23-1691 Event Description: Swedish/Prussian forces land at Newcastle to assist William not knowing he is not in England at the moment. The Swedes crush early resistance and besiege the city.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 8-11-1691 Event Description: James army is defeated attempting to break the siege of Newcastle. The city surrenders. Rallying Williamite support, the Swedes march on York, Manchester and Cambridge.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 9-2-1691 Event Description: William having returned to Dover, is defeated by French and Jacobite forces near Kent. William, injured in the battle is taken from the field.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 9-5-1691 Event Description: William dies of his wounds from the battle of Kent. Mary vows to continue the struggle against James "the Usurper"
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 2-13-1692 Event Description: Williamites raid Glencoe killing forty members of the Macdonald clan (one of the chief instigators of the Parliament Massacre). Later called the Macdonald Massacre, the incident sparks similar atrocities between Williamites and Jacobites across English territory.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 3-4-1692 Event Description: Swedish forces capture York, Manchester falls less than a week later. The Prussian and Swedish commanders unable to decide, split their forces in assaults on London and Edinburgh. A Williamite uprising is quelled in Southampton. French troops land in Dover to assist James.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 4-28-1692 Event Description: The Swedish army is crushed by French and Jacobite armies. Upon hearing of this, the Prussian force breaks its siege of Edinburgh and returns to York.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 8-3-1692 Event Description: The French win major victory at Steenkerke. Having won victories earlier this year in England and in Africa, the French send the League of Augsburg its terms for excepting their surrender.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 8-9-1692 Event Description: Louis XIV receives word that the French have been firmly defeated at La Roche. the same day the League of Augsburg returns Frances terms of surrender with its own demands. Louis XIV was "visibly upset" upon reading the letter. It was later noted one of the many ridiculous terms for France’s surrender was that the Sun King be "stripped bare tarred and feathered, and marched through the capitols of all the members of the League."
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 8-28-1692 Event Description: Williamite/Prussian forces defeat James II army outside York. Williamites launch an unsuccessful campaign against New York. Jacobites solidify control of south Carolina while heavy skirmishes continue in North Carolina.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 9-27-1692 Event Description: James II signs treaty of Southampton which officially ends fighting between the French and English. as stipulations to the agreement, England surrenders captured French colonies, and agrees to no future English expeditions or colonization of the Americas. Current colonies are permitted to remain. Further Marshal Luxembourg is to be named Duke of York.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 9-30-1692 Event Description: Williamite forces capture Bristol, and food riots break out in Portsmouth.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 3-11-1693 Event Description: With the help of the new parliament,James II abolishes the Anglican church and declares England once again in league with the Pope of Rome. Williamite uprisings intensify.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 5-29-1693 Event Description: Jacobites begin a blockade of New England using a few French but mostly English ships from the loyal remnants of the Smyrna fleet.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 7-18-1693 Event Description: Swedish forces land near Aberdeen and begin a march on Edinburgh
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 7-21-1693 Event Description: Williamite forces ambush French troopships approaching Southampton. All six vessels were sunk, the French soldiers left to drown. Williamites revolt in Southampton.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 8-4-1693 Event Description: James crushes rebellion in Portsmouth and Southampton. Williamite rebellions break out in London. The prime minister is tarred, feathered and hung.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 8-23-1693 Event Description: Swedish army captures Edinburgh only to vacate the city upon hearing rumors of an alliance between France and Poland-Lithuania. The rumor later turns out to be false.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 1-13-1694 Event Description: James quells rebellion in London. Prussian forces return to Germany. York falls to Jacobites
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 3-17-1694 Event Description: James attempts an assault on Amsterdam. the attack fails with heavy losses. France withdraws all troops from English soil to be redeployed in Germany/Netherlands.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 6-28-1694 Event Description: French win a marginal victory over the Dutch and Williamite fleet in the English channel. Losses were high on both sides but the French now dominate the waterway.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 8-6-1694 Event Description: Dutch and German forces along with Swedish and Danish mercenaries, land near Newcastle. Williamite rebellions break out across the south of England. York captured by Williamites.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 9-4-1694 Event Description: James stabbed to death by a Williamite retainer in his palace
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 9-6-1694 Event Description: James III assumes the throne. Williamite loyalists capture nearly all of Wales. The Augsburg army marches on London.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 9-23-1694 Event Description: James III flees to France as London falls. Mary returns to England
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 10-19-1694 Event Description: Mary reaffirmed as queen, restores the Anglican church but repeals the punishment acts against Catholics. Offers amnesty to any Englishman who would lay down their arms and swear loyalty to the Queen, Catholic or not.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 10-28-1694 Event Description: James III declares Mary a traitor and enemy of the Crown. Louis XIV promises no further aid to James. He is quoted as saying. "Must I pad your throne for you as well? If you cannot control your subjects, you do not deserve to rule them."
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 12-28-1694 Event Description: Mary II dies. Williamite leaders turn to Anne, sister of Mary who refuses to claim the throne of a sundered nation. Williamites expel the last Jacobite forces south of Scottish Border.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 1-1-1695 Event Description: James III demands the Williamites stand down and accept his rule. They reply a few days later explaining they would rather not have a king than a French prostitute. (or something to that effect anyway)
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 4-4-1695 Event Description: Forces clashing in Germany-Holland agree to a cease fire to discuss the "English situation". Delegates dispatched to Maastricht to discuss peace.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 4-28-1695 Event Description: James III returns to Scotland to rally support for a renewed drive to England. Williamite forces held together by an influential Duke of Marlborough.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 5-14-1695 Event Description: Phipps attempts to take the Upper Hudson River valley fails, he retreats to Boston with his broken army.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 6-3-1695 Event Description: After lengthy negotiations, warring parties (though not including the dueling English factions) agree to a favorable peace in Europe. In the Rhine valley and Holland, the combatants agree to end the war Status Quo Ante Bellum, returning all conquered possessions to their prior owners. In England the powers reach an agreement that places George I, elector of Hanover as King of England and Wales with the Duke of Marlborough acting as the first defender of England. James III is to be recognized as King of Scotland with Ireland as a protectorate. Crowned James IX of Scotland, he is given domain over Scotland, Ireland, and all English colonies currently under pro-James administrative control. These colonies include New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and South Carolina.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 6-17-1695 Event Description: News of the Treaty of Maastricht causes an escalation of fighting in North Carolina as well as on the border between new York and new England. Mass migrations are reported across all of the colonies.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 6-23-1695 Event Description: George I crowned King of England and Wales after which he immediately names the Duke of Marlborough the first protector of England and her colonies.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 7-1-1695 Event Description: England dispatches eight thousand soldiers to New England to bolster defenses there and stabilize the peace. North Carolina officially designated an English colony. The same day George I declares that colonial restrictions and trade agreements promised by James II are voided. as well as his Alliance with Holland, and the Holy Roman Empire.
Timeline Number: 1845 Event Date: 7-27-1695 Event Description: Scotland announces that Catholicism is official religion of Scotland, Wales and all Scottish colonies. He notes that non-Catholic religions will be tolerated without due persecution assuming they recognize the church of Scotland and loyalty to the King. The edict quells unrest from Presbyterians in Scotland following his coronation.
