Timeline Number: 1528 Event Date: 6-28-1848 Event Description: The army of the Roman Republic under Garibaldi fight French troops to a stalemate. Eventually the Papal States were restored, containing only Rome and surrounding provinces, while the remaining territories become the Republic of Urbino under the leadership of Garibaldi.
Timeline Number: 1528 Event Date: 7-25-1848 Event Description: The end of the four day battle of Custoza ends in an Italian Victory over the Austrian army. Soon after the combined Italian army relieves Venice. That finally crushes Austrian influence in Italy.
Timeline Number: 1528 Event Date: 7-30-1848 Event Description: Lajos Kossuth formaly declares Hungary an independent Reepublic. The slavic nationalities in Hungary's domain begin to demand thier own independence.
Timeline Number: 1528 Event Date: 8-2-1848 Event Description: In a pan slavic assembly in Prauge, the Czech and Slovak lands unite to become the Republic of Czechoslovakia. Also invited to join were the Polish lands of Galacia and Lodomeria, currently Hapsburg territories.
Timeline Number: 1528 Event Date: 10-7-1848 Event Description: The German Assembly of Frankfurt disbands after the delegates could not agree on anything. This leaves bitterness between the small states for decades to come.
Timeline Number: 1528 Event Date: 11-4-1848 Event Description: A Croatian force organized by the Austrians in the hope that they could quash the revolutionaries in Vienna, revolt and declare their independence. A minor Hapsburg noble becomes the new king of Croatia (which also includes Slavonia).
Timeline Number: 1528 Event Date: 2-1-1849 Event Description: After a valiant defense, Budapest falls to the Austrians. By the end of the month Hungary will be back under the Austrian crown. Kossuth himself will flee to Czechoslovakia.
Timeline Number: 1528 Event Date: 2-22-1849 Event Description: Austria acknowledges Czechoslovakian and Croatian indepenence.
Timeline Number: 1528 Event Date: 11-30-1853 Event Description: The Russian Black Sea fleet attacks and destroys the Turkish fleet at Sinop. Both the British and French decide to do some land grabbing at the expense of the Ottomans.
Timeline Number: 1528 Event Date: 7-18-1854 Event Description: The Russo-Turkish war ends. Romania and Bulgaria gain thier independence and the Black Sea is in Russian hands. The British take all Ottoman territories in the Persian Gulf, including Baghdad. France gets Tripoli and Egypt (which left the British angry).
Timeline Number: 1528 Event Date: 9-14-1858 Event Description: The Suez Canal is completed. The French now begin to expand their navy to explore the eastern shores of Africa.
Timeline Number: 1528 Event Date: 11-5-1859 Event Description: Austria invades Venice starting the Great Italian War. The Austrians are stoped just north of Venice. Another Austrian army invades territories of the Kingdom of Sardinia. Milan is captured.
Timeline Number: 1528 Event Date: 12-18-1859 Event Description: In a conference held in Genoa, Italy is unified under King Victor Emmanuel II, except for the Papal State of Rome.
Timeline Number: 1528 Event Date: 1-1-1860 Event Description: The battle of Magenta brings another Austrian victory, but the prisoners taken had a perculiar French "accent" and had on French uniforms. Austria declaired war on France. Recently named Emperor Napoleon III, rushed his entire army into northern Italy.
Timeline Number: 1528 Event Date: 2-17-1860 Event Description: Major battle of Venice breaks the Austrian army.
Timeline Number: 1528 Event Date: 2-21-1860 Event Description: Battle of Bergamo is the last major battle of the war and an allied victory. The war carries on for another 2 months and a series of minor skirmishes are fought along the Venician/Austrian borderline.
Timeline Number: 1528 Event Date: 4-8-1860 Event Description: The Treaty of Venice officialy ends the war. The borders stay as they were, Austria is to pay 2 million Lira to Italy for war damages.
Timeline Number: 1528 Event Date: 5-15-1862 Event Description: Maximillian of Hapsburg, King of Croatia and Slavonia since 1858, is elected to become Mexico's emperor. He accepts. In Europe, this event is seen as a threatning expansion of Hapsburgian power.
Timeline Number: 1528 Event Date: 10-9-1862 Event Description: In response to the growing Hapsburg influence, the German states put aside their differences and agree to unite. Only Saxony and Bavaria decide to stay with thier Austrian ally. King Wilhelm of Prussia is crowned Kaiser Wilhelm I of the German Empire.
