| 1940 | 2917 Add An Event | Operation Sealion is put into action. Stuka Ju87 dive-bombers successfully target RAF RADAR stations along Southern England, disabling the majority for at least 24 hours. However on their return flight to France, the Stukas come in for heavy punishment from RAF fighters that have been scrambled. Meanwhile 20,000 German paratroopers descend upon the Sector Control Stations and major airfields of the RAF of 11 and 12 Groups. The elite airborne infantry quickly overwhelm the defenders, and all objectives are secured within hours, with minimal casualties on both sides. Many RAF fighters are caught on the ground, those that manage to get in the air are simply outnumbered, and either flee to airfields further north where the Germans haven't landed or are shot down. Smaller RAF airfields are hit by Luftwaffe bombers, destroying a small number of aircraft but causing a massive amount of disruption, bombing craters in the runways and landing strips, making it almost impossible for planes to take-off or land. At the same time 90,000 men of the Wehrmacht cross the Channel escorted by the Kreigsmarines. A U-boat wolfpack waiting at the mouth of Portsmouth harbour torpedoes a convoy of Royal Navy ships leaving to engage the invading enemy, sinking two destroyers, and the battleship Nelson. The wolfpack quickly retreats, leaving the convoy severely disrupted but U-192 is pursued by a British destroyer, who locates the submarine and drops depth charges, forcing it to beach on the Isle of Wight. Another U-boat wolfpack manages to hold back a convoy of British ships attempting to enter the Channel from the North Sea, sinking another destroyer, a light cruiser and the battleship Victoria, before sailing back to port in France. At Plymouth, the German ship Adimral Scheer, supported by the light cruisers Liepzig and Nurnberg and several destroyers enagage the Royal Navy. The Nurnberg takes three direct hits from the concentrated fire of the British cruisers Yarmouth, Rajal and Chelmsford. The German ship sinks, and aircraft of Luftflotte III are called upon to support the German ships. Although no British ships are sunk, the combined effort of the Kreigsmarines and Luftwaffe pursue the British ships into the Irish sea. The vast majority of German transports reach British waters unscathed, and heavily escorted by the Luftwaffe. Dover is taken within a matter of hours, while Portsmouth, Southampton and Plymouth are only secured following heavy fighting and a considerable number of casualties, however, with these four major ports in German hands, it will be possible to quickly land the key force behind Germany's blitzkreig tactics - the panzer divisions. | 2006 | 2015 Add An Event | A dissheveled middle-aged man wearing a 1970's vintage business suit stumbles into the FBI field office in Detroit. He identifies himself as Jimmy Hoffa; his 1975 driver's license and credit cards (as well as a search of the FBI's fingerprint database) confirm his identity. Hoffa reveals that he was about to be killed by the mob when aliens abducted him and held him hostage. The mob operatives ordered to kill Hoffa had their memories wiped by the aliens and replaced with various stories of how they disposed of Hoffa (burial under Giants Stadium, disposal in a meat-rendering plant, etc.) that gave rise to the rumors that had cropped up over the years. Only recently was he able to escape, returning to Earth near where he was about to be killed and spending the next four days hitchhiking to Detroit.
Jimmy Hoffa's story is the same as the stories of Crater and other long-missing Americans who have started to reappear. Like Crater and the others, Hoffa confirms that the aliens' intentions are less than honorable but has no idea why he specifically was abducted. Hoffa is initially taken into custody by the FBI for further questioning but the Pentagon and the Department of Homeland Security intervene and move Hoffa to an undisclosed location where the other returnees are also being held.

| 1939 | 3928 Add An Event | J. Edgar Hoover, President of the United States, and Adolf Hitler, Chancellor of the Third Reich of Germany, meet for the first time, in the German port city of Hamburg. They sign the Hamburg Agreement, a non-aggression pact. America will stay out of any European operations that Germany conducts over the next ten years, and Germany will attack no American citizens, military or civilian, over the same period. The announcement is made over a new medium: Television. Having entered into an agreement with William Paley, chairman of the Columbia Broadcasting System, and David Sarnoff, chairman of the National Broadcasting Company, television broadcasting has become cheap and easy, and the sale of television sets, which had been in the single digits per year since Philo Farnsworth invented them in 1927, has come to about 1 million a year. Sales of radios are also at an all-time high. The fact that Sarnoff is Jewish, and both Hoover and Hitler seem to not like Jews, seems to trouble neither Hoover nor Sarnoff. | 1943 | 3928 Add An Event | The film "Stormy Weather" is banned, due to its mostly-black cast. Particularly offensive to the government is young chanteuse Lena Horne, singing the title song: "Don't know why there's no sun up in the sky, stormy weather, since me and my man ain't been together." Written by Harold Arlen in 1933, the song was first a hit for another black singer, Ethel Waters. But in this forum, it appears to be a song about a woman missing her man, who has been deported to one of the European colonies in Africa. Miss Horne pleads ignorance of that possible interpretation of the song, and is told that she will not be prosecuted, but it might be a good idea if she leaves the country. She heads for Britain, where she will become a huge star. Arlen and Waters, not having any direct connection to the film, are left alone. Another performer in the film, Thomas "Fats" Waller, is arrested for conspiracy to incite riot for his song "This Joint Is Jumpin'," which he sang in the film. He is roughed up by SIU agents, but released with a warning. Discuss This Timeline (0 Entries So Far) | Previous Event Next Event | |

He knows perfectly well that Chancellor Hugenberg intends him to serve as a powerless figurehead, just as his grandfather Wilhelm II had done for years. However, he has learned from Hugenberg’s own example: just as the Chancellor had done years earlier to avoid being exploited as a front man for Hindenburg and the Wehrmacht, the Crown Prince (now Kaiser) has been quietly building connections with business and military leaders, members of the surviving Junker aristocracy, and even ambitious figures within the Chancellor’s party. In addition, he has built bridges to the remnants of the Nazi movement, which he sees as a useful source of paramilitary support.
