| 2002 | 734 Add An Event | In what will be remembered as the darkest day in American history, terrorists launch a major attack on the United States. In the mid-morning hours, the terrorists hijack two eastbound planes in Chicago and three westbound planes out of Boston's Logan Airport. At 10:18, the first of the planes slams into the lower floors of the Sears Tower, which is already full of people at work. Almost an hour later, two planes crash into both towers of the World Trade Center, which was already undergoing a limited evacuation due to the attack in Chicago. President Bush, on vacation in Texas is alerted to the attacks and puts the military on alert. It's too late though as at 11:45, the third hijacked plane is crashed into Independence Hall in downtown Philadelphia. The force of the crash is so great that nearby buildings are damaged to the point that they'll collapse before the day is out.
At 12:34, the Sears Tower collapses, killing everyone inside and the 2000+ Chicago firefighters trying to fight the fire. Five minutes later, the fifth plane, eastbound from Chicago and largely forgotten, slams into the Capitol Building. Fortunately, Congress had been evacuated after the attack on the World Trade Center. The Capitol collapses immediately, having no internal structural support, destroying over 200 years of history. America, thinking that the attacks are over, are shocked as, on live TV, a truck explodes right outside the National Archives building, killing over 200 and destroying the important documents inside, including the Constitution and Declaration of Independence. Almost immediately, another truck explodes outside of the State Department, collapsing the structure. At 1:15, the North Tower of the WTC collapses, killing over 15,000. Ten minutes later, the South Tower collapses, killing over 18,000, including the New York firefighters valiantly fighting the blaze. Nearly 50,000 people have died in the attacks and reports are that Secretary of State Colin Powell is missing and Vice President Cheney, in Washington to break a tie in the Senate, is presumed dead. President Bush wants to get to Washington to boost the already crushed morale of the nation, but the Secret Service, fearful of more attacks, forces the President into hiding. The last attack of the evening occurs when a bomb left in a truck detonates outside the Federal Reserve Bank in mid-town Manhattan. While the attack neither harms or kills anyone, it destroys enough funds to cause an economic recession. Discuss This Timeline (0 Entries So Far) | Previous Event Next Event | |

What the British did not know was that the Spanish were waiting to see their performance. The overdisciplined Americans ripped the British apart. The Spaniards intervened to keep the British from being killed so close to their shore. The Americans ceased fire when the Spanish sailed in, with a white flag. The British and Americans were informed that this was a violation of Spain's territory and that both must take their ships and leave.
The British admiral rudely declares that before they can leave, the rebels must get off four of the ships they boarded. With a smile of contempt the British admiral is told that seeing as how the 'REBEL' flag is over what he calls his ships they depart with them. The Americans quickly run up their flags on those ships bringing down the British flag. The Spanish crews are laughing. The spanish ambassador tells the British, when asked why Spain did this: "First and foremost Britian has declared this an internal matter, we are not to become involved per Britians request. Second this being the case, with no other treaties stating Spain's agreed behavior, we made the ships depart Spain's waters. Ownership we also can't recognise, this being an "INTERNAL" matter. They all belong to Britian in Spain's view. Unless of course Britian is requesting aid in dealing with an entirely internal matter..." Britian walks away with out a single noise. To do so would bring in the other nations on the rebellions side. Spain orders troops moved up to the border with the colonies, in Floridia.
