| 1947 | 973 Add An Event | After 2 days of nuclear bombardment, all the large urban centers in the Soviet Union are smoldering ruins. Stalin and the Communist leadership have retreated into a deep bunker within the Ural Mountains and now plot strategy.
Communist-led protests in New York and San Francisco call for the impeachment of President Truman and execution of the officers and men who carried out the attack on the "peace loving" Soviets. Riots in New York begin when one of the protestors (later identified as a communist provocateur) sucker punches a police officer. MacArthur's headquarters is receiving word that American and Chinese Nationalist advance units have reached the heart of Shanghai. Back at Marshal Chuikov's headquarters in Beijing, Chuikov and his staff greet the news of Shanghai's capture with consternation and disappointment; Red Army troops were just eight miles outside the city and could have taken it in another two or three days. | 1944 | 122 Add An Event | Former SS leaders and operatives (including the famous Otto Skorzeny) lead Operation Greif, in which they capture back SS men being held as prisoners, capture huge stores of equipment ranging from tanks to early German jet fighters, and assassinate key figures. This had been in planning for almost a year, when the SS was mostly broken up. Goering and Himmler are liberated. Blueprints for V-1 and V-2 rockets are captured, either destroyed or kept. Some of the scientests on the project, excluding the ones working out of America or Britan were shot dead. An assassination attempt on Rommel is spoiled, but many government figures are hung. Otto Skorzeny himself leads a platoon of elite paratroopers and manages to capture German atom bomb scientests, including Werner Heisenberg (they had been urged to come to America to help there, but they had chosen to stay in Germany). At this point, the SS and everything they seized is taken to the mountain fortress of Alpenfestung, where they will hold out as long as possible, and even use the key figures they captured as negotiating peices. | 1854 | 333 Add An Event | With a fleet of 35 heavy iron-sided steamships armed with numerous 10 inch cannon, the US Navy begins a prolonged bombardment of Edo and Osaka. The rust-colored iron siding gives rise to the designation of this fleet as the "Great Crimson Fleet".
This operation is called "Rolling Thunder" by President Franklin Pierce. Rear Admiral David Farragut directs the 5 month shelling of these two key towns, and after these are annihilated, the Great Crimson Fleet remains in Japanese coastal waters to blockade any movement on water to or from Japan. Tokugawa Iesada vows to repel the "foreign devils", and calls upon the bakufu and all local daimyo to resist to the last man upon hearing of the landing forces amassing off the coast of Izu. While meeting with Congressional leaders and the Cabinet later in the day, he sees that the American people are willing to give him a chance, but with unemployment at 15.6 percent, the highest since 1935, the federal budget deficit approaching $300 billion, and foreign-policy messes all over the world, "the Republican JFK" has his work cut out for him. "Suddenly, facing the Kansas City Chiefs of Buck Buchanan, Bobby Bell and Willie Lanier doesn't sound so daunting," he tells PBS interviewer Jim Lehrer. Patton is unable to break the Maoist lines at Changshou, where over 500,000 soldiers have died. While the Maoists are distracted there, however, Japanese and Nationalist forces are slowly starting to retake the rest of China itself. Molotov sends a surprise cable to the Alliance: status quo antebellum and reaffrimation of Federation borders as of 1942 in exchange for a joint effort against the Vegans. It is flatly refused. The Allies push for the unconditional surrender of all territories wrongfully occupied by Japan, all major naval ships to be turned over to the allies and all Japanese leaders accused of war crimes handed over to the Allies. | 1940 | 1861 Add An Event | Italians send a military reconaissance squad to Tirane but it is intercepted and captured by Byzantine security forces. Under "persuasive interrogation" the Italians reveal that an invasion of Epirus is imminent and that the invasion fleet is based at Taranto. Five "improved" Parthenon class submarines, each capable of carrying 14 specially modified Brigand aircraft, are sent from the naval base at Patra to 30 miles south of Taranto, complete with new B-2b anti-ship missiles. These are top-of-the-line aircraft. Thankfully the submarines can now reload their aircraft and later redeploy them, but with over 50% of the submersible air carriers being deployed on this mission some wonder if it is worth the risk. Byzantine authorities also begin preparing to land soldiers at Otranto and Brisindi to take territory from Italy itself. Brigand fighters and new "Flea" fighters (based on the Me 334 design) are readied for anti-ship warfare against the incoming Italian invasion force. | 1998 | 1515 Add An Event | During the moment of isolation for the European Forces, the U.S. Navy were able to sneak in undetected and had taken the island of Gebralter. From there the U.S. Military launches their new weapon of drones. The drones are made up of light bombers, desinged to launch missles at key targets and designed to crash into targets when its munitions have been spent.
