Welcome
to This Day in Alternate History.
Too much to read on this page?
Here's the quick explanation!

Did you ever wonder how differently things may have turned out
if one particular historical event hadn't happened the way it did?
What if JFK hadn't been assassinated? What if FDR had been? This
web site gives you a chance to see speculation about what might
have happened. Or if you have your own ideas this web site gives
you a chance to share them.
The site calendar has an alternate timeline for every day of the
year. Most are based on actual historical events from our own timeline,
some are completely made up. Some are major events, some barely
qualify as minor. To enter the calendar, choose "Enter the
Calendar" on the left side of the page, or choose one of the
months running across the top of the page.
A timeline is in effect, another reality. In our timeline, JFK
was killed on November 22, 1963. Another reality could have shared
our history up to that point but in this other reality, the bullets
may have missed. This timeline then goes on differently than ours.
It may be a subtle difference - JFK may be killed by a backup shooter
on the other side of the railroad bridge causing this reality to
be not much different (except for the investigation of the assassination)
than ours. Or, the differences may be major - Kennedy may have pulled
our troops from Vietnam - or - he may have gotten into a nuclear
war with the Soviet Union.
One person can play different roles in multiple timelines. For example,
on June 10, Benjamin Franklin is mentioned
in timelines #208 and #209. In timeline #208, he obviously could
not have been appointed to draft the Declaration of Independence
in 1776. However, timeline #209 is a separate and distinct timeline
and the events of #208 have no bearing upon it. An event can also
appear in multiple timelines. There are different Gettysburg timelines
for July 2, 3, and 4.
Many of the timelines on the calendar have been "explored".
You can trace the exploration of these timelines by clicking on
the phrase "Next Event" to see what happens next in the
timeline, or "Previous Event" to see where this timeline
is coming from. The timeline you are tracking will be highlighted
in red. Clicking on the timeline number take you to a page showing
all the events which occur in a particular timeline. Clicking
on any of the dates on this page will take you to that date.
Some timelines have not been explored, they are waiting for you.
Please use your imagination and explore them. To explore any item,
click on "add an event". You may also futher explore already
explored timelines.
If you would like to create a new timeline, click on "Submit
Your Ideas". It's in the left side of every page. You can add
a 1 event or a many event timeline.
Each page of the calendar is broken into two sections, "timelines
beginning on this date", and "timelines continuing on
this date" (see below). For example, On March 13, 1943 there
was an assassination attempt on Hitler. Our calendar for March 13
presents a timeline in which the attempt was successful. This is
entered in "timelines beginning on this date".

Hitler was killed went into effect on March 14. This is entered under
"timelines continuing on this date" and can be accessed
from the March 13 page by clicking on "Next Event" (not
